BREXIT MEANS WE RUN OUR OWN COUNTRY AGAIN

Summary:

The departure from the EU has allowed the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to investigate and pursue all mergers that it has an interest in, and where it is in the UK interest to do so. As a member of the EU, the CMA was unable to involve itself in any mergers where the EU body was already investigating. This means the CMA will be able to make decisions in the best interests of the UK, instead of decisions being based on the “greater good” of the EU even if to the detriment of the UK.

Explanation:

Following our departure from the EU the UK Government has allowed the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to investigate and pursue all mergers it has an interest in, and where it is in the UK interest to do so. As a member of the EU, the CMA was unable to involve itself in any mergers where the EU body was already investigating according to its defined interests. By giving the CMA the sole authority it will be able to make decisions in the best interests of the UK, and the UK only, instead of decisions being based on the “greater good” of the EU even if to the detriment of the UK.
