BREXIT SAVES BILLIONS IN EU FEES AND MEMBERSHIP COSTS
Summary:
In June 2024 all EU member states undertook fresh elections for the EU Parliament. In 2019 it cost the UK taxpayer £150 Million. By leaving the EU the additional and repeated cost of electing 73 MEPs each representing some 900,000 people was removed.
Explanation:
In June 2024 all EU member states undertook fresh elections for MEPs to sit in the EU Parliament. The last time this exercise was undertaken in the UK, in 2019, it cost the UK taxpayer £150 Million. With a supposed UK population of 66.84 million in 2019, and the UK’s allocation of 73 MEPs, that meant each single MEP represented some 900,000 people.
By leaving the EU, this additional and costly level of unnecessary bureaucracy is not only removed, but the repeated cost of running the elections for those MEP positions is also removed
