Estimates of the ongoing Net Cost to the UK of its membership of the EU range upwards from four per cent of GDP per year. In just the thirteen years 1997 – 2009 inclusive, the cumulated UK current account deficit with EU-26 (trade deficit plus the net budgetary contribution to “Brussels”) was £ 218 billion.
